Haven (de; noun; v; plural: havens):

Harbor/Port: A place on the coast or shore where ships may moor or find shelter.

Eten = Food/ To eat

Eten (het; noun/verb; o; no plural):

  1. Food: Noun - substances consumed to provide nutritional support
  2. To eat: Verb - the act of consuming food.

En = And

En (conjunction):

And: A conjunction used to connect words, phrases, or clauses.

Grote = Big/ Large

Grote (adjective):

Big/Large: Describing something of considerable size or extent.



Gezicht: Face

Gezicht (het; noun; o; plural: gezichten):

Face: The front part of a person's head, where the eyes, nose, and mouth are located.

Jaar = Year

Jaar (de; noun; m; plural: jaren):

Year: Twelve months representing the time it takes for the Earth to complete its orbit around the sun.

Ben jij dat? = Is that you?

Ben jij dat? (phrase):

Is that you?: A question asking if the person being addressed is the one being referred to.

! Literal translation: In dutch we say 'Is you that?'. Literally translations per word:

  • Ben = is
  • Jij = you
  • Dat = that

Echt = Real(ly)

Echt (adjective/adverb):

Real/Really: Adjective - describing something authentic or genuine; Adverb - used to emphasize the truth or sincerity of a statement.

 

Hoe gaat het? = How are you?

Hoe gaat het? (phrase):

How are you?: A common greeting asking about someone's well-being.

! Literal translation: In dutch we say 'How goes it?'. Literally translations per word:

  • Hoe = How
  • Gaat = Goes
  • Het = It

Ja = yes

Ja (adverb/conjunction):

Yes: Adverb - used to affirm or confirm a statement; Conjunction - used to connect words, phrases, or clauses in the affirmative.

Goed = Good

Goed (adjective/adverb):

Good/Well: Adjective - describing something of high quality or positive value; Adverb - used to indicate satisfactory or favorable conditions.

Waar = True/ Where

Waar (adverb/conjunction):

  1. True: Something that is the truth, it is correct.
  2. Where: Adverb - used to inquire about location; Conjunction - used to introduce a question about place.

Fantastisch = Fantastic

Fantastisch (adjective/adverb):

Fantastic: Describing something extraordinarily good or impressive; used to express enthusiasm or approval.

Wat = What

Wat (pronoun/adverb):

What: Pronoun - used to inquire about something; Adverb - used to introduce a relative clause.

 

Een = A/ One

Een (indefinite article/numeral):

  1. A; Indefinite article - used before a singular noun to indicate any member of a class
  2. One; Numeral - the number one.

! Pro-tip: in dutch we pronounce the word 'een' different between the two definitions.

  • If you want 'een' to mean 'A' we use the first pronounciation in the audio;
  • If you want 'een' to mean 'One' we use the second pronounciation in the audio.

Nieuw = New

Nieuw (adjective):

New: Describing something recently made, discovered, or created.

Zak = Bag/ Pocket

Zak (de; noun; v; plural: zakken):

Bag/Pocket: A flexible container with an opening at the top, used for carrying things or storing items; also used to refer to a pocket in clothing.

 

Hoofdstuk = Chapter

Hoofdstuk (het; noun; o; plural: hoofdstukken):

Chapter: A division of a book, typically with a number or title, indicating a separate topic or section.

Prachtige = Beautiful

Prachtige (adjective):

Beautiful/Magnificent: Describing something of exceptional beauty or splendor.

Veel = Many/ Much

Veel (adjective/adverb/pronoun):

Many/Much: Adjective - indicating a large quantity or number; Adverb - to a great extent; Pronoun - a large quantity or number of something.

Plezier = Enjoyment/ Fun

Plezier (het; noun; o; no plural):

Enjoyment/Fun: The state or feeling of happiness and satisfaction derived from engaging in something pleasurable or entertaining.

Mijn = My

Mijn (pronoun/determiner):

My: Pronoun - indicating possession of the first person; Determiner - used before a noun to indicate possession or association.

Plan = Plan

Plan (het; noun; o; plural: plannen):

Plan: A detailed proposal or strategy for achieving a particular goal.

Zeilen = To sail

Zeilen (het; noun/verb; no plural):

Sailing/To sail: Noun - the activity or sport of traveling in a boat with sails; Verb - the action of propelling a boat forward using sails.

Einde = End

Einde (het; noun; o; plural: einden):

End: The final part or point of something.

Rest = Rest

Rest (de; noun; v; no plural):

Rest: What is left after everything else has been taken or used; the remaining part.
